Awards to be presented at the Massachusetts PTA Annual Convention, April 7, 2018

Leadership Awards – Application required

The Barbara Bailey Membership Award

Barbara Bailey was president of Massachusetts PTA in the early 1990’s.  During her term (and beyond!), she was able to help units manage memberships, bylaws, and conflicts.  To recognize her continued dedication to units across the state, we are honored to name this award after her.  Describe a successful membership drive that your unit completed during the past year.

The Carol Woodbury Leadership Award

Carol Woodbury was the president of the Massachusetts PTA from 1999-2002.  During her term, she inspired units across the state to work together and form positive relationships with school administrations and the community.  Carol continues to work on behalf of students, parents and teachers in Massachusetts where she works as a superintendent.  Write a brief description of an inspiring leader in your local unit.  Tell us what makes that person inspiring and how it made a difference in your school/community.

Student Advocate Award

This award is given to a student on the Local Unit level who has made significant contributions through Leadership/Service. In a short essay, describe how this student exemplifies and stands out among others of his/her peers, how they adopted and carried out the mission of the PTA and volunteered their time to bring this to fruition.

Spirit of PTA Award

This award recognizes volunteers who promote and encourage the essence of PTA in their communities…every Child. one Voice.  Write a short essay describing someone you feel portrays the true essence of PTA. Members must be registered to accept the award. This award is open to a variety of leadership roles that your unit feels a member is deserving of recognition: newsletter, event planning, public relations, fundraising, etc. Your local dues can cover any convention expenses, as well.

Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award

This award is to recognize a school teacher who is supportive, helpful, and personally involved in the PTA.

Outstanding Vice Principal of the Year Award

This award is to recognize a school vice principal who is supportive, helpful, and personally involved in the PTA.

Outstanding Principal of the Year Award

This award is to recognize a school principal who is supportive, helpful, and personally involved in the PTA.

Outstanding Superintendent of the Year Award

This award is to recognize as school district superintendent who is supportive, helpful, and personally involved in the PTA.

Spotlight on Men Award

This award rewards those units who focus on ways to engage the fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, business partners, etc. In a short essay, describe how your PTA has utilized or involved fathers in your school or community.  Attach fliers/news articles/screen shots that are related.

Newsletter/ Communications (Examples of Publication Required)

Do you have a great way of keeping your PTA community informed? Whether it is newsletters that are sent home in a backpack, emails or a website that helps members keep up-to-date with your PTA happenings, show us how you communicate. Submit an example of your communication.

Community Membership Award

In order to bring into closer relations the school and community, i.e., places of worship, businesses, community leaders, etc., this award will be given to those PTAs that recruit twenty-five members from the community in addition to parents who also serve in community leadership positions.

Literacy Award

This Award is given to PTA units that promote literacy among students, families and the community; support the Media Center with activities that help make students better readers, writers and thinkers; and advance the ideals of learning through the written word.

2018 Massachusetts PTA convention

February 9, 2018 by Madison Estes

PTA has a long and proud history. For over 120 years, volunteers have spoken up for children and public education. Join us on April  7 to learn more about this history and to discuss today’s issues and how you can continue this legacy of advocating for every child!

Marques Ivey, National PTA Vice President for Advocacy will be joining us. He will be presenting a workshop, “Amplifying Your Voice through PTA’s Advocacy Priorities” and will be available throughout the day to speak with you and answer your questions.

At our luncheon, we will be recognizing our Reflections honorees. This year’s honorees created works of art  that reflected the theme “Within Reach.”  We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate the creativity of these students.
There will be several workshop sessions and plenty of time built in for networking and visiting our exhibitors. Workshop details will be posted shortly.
General session gives you the opportunity to have a say in who leads the organization. New officers will be elected and bylaws changes will be voted on.
 Tentative schedule
Our Awards Dinner will recognize the successes of YOU and our local units, as well as the installation of your newly elected Massachusetts PTA officers. There’s still time to apply for many of these awards. Entries are due March 18.
Check out rates for this year’s convention
And, don’t miss out on our incentives for registering early
  • PTA members who register by  March 5 will have their names entered in a drawing to win a $200 gift card for their unit.

Virtual Leadership Training 2020

June 11, 2017 by Madison Estes

Each summer, information for Presidents, Vice Presidents, Treasurers, Secretaries, along with information for Membership, Advocacy, Fundraising, Health, and Reflections Chairs, makes this event a unique energizing start to everyone’s PTA year. Get up to date on the latest rules and regulations from the IRS and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, sharpen your leadership and advocacy skills, learn about programs and grants, and take advantage of the networking opportunities.

We are requesting that each PTA send a representative to virtual summer leadership as the Massachusetts PTA standards of affiliation require that someone from each PTA attend at least one training each year. The person attending does not have to be an officer of the PTA, it can be a member who is interested in moving up or if there is someone that you think would be good to move up, or just a representative from the school. This is an excellent opportunity for any member who wants to know more about what PTA has to offer. Everyone is welcome; we hope that you and your other members will join us.

We are offering a number of dates – pick the one that you would like to attend (these sessions are scheduled for 2 hours each):

Saturday, August 1st, 2020 at 9:30am via Zoom

Click Here to Register for Sat. 8/1

Saturday, August 22nd, 2020 at 9:30am via Zoom

Click Here to Register for Sat. 8/22

Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 at 7:00pm via Zoom

Click Here to Register for Wed. 9/16

*please note the same information will be given each session, so you only need to attend one. The slideshow will be available after the webinars end.
